Asbestos Surveys & Sampling

If you own, occupy, manage or have responsibilities for non-domestic premises which may contain asbestos you may be responsible for assessing and managing any asbestos containing materials (ACMs) as stipulated in the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 (CAR), Regulation 4.

Asbestos Sampling
If you suspect your premises to contain an asbestos material we can arrange for a site visit from one of our qualified surveyors to take suitable samples of the ACM and with subsequent analysis of the sample it will be taken to a UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accredited laboratory.

We will then provide you with a brief report and advise you on the necessary course of action. If you require our full surveys service, you will be supplied with a full report including relevant photographs and site plans.

If you require our assistance call us free on: 0800 0937810 or email us.

Asbestos Surveys
At Cordtape Environmental Services Ltd we can provide you with professional advice and an asbestos survey carried out to HSG 264 standard and use the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) guidance to assess the level of asbestos in your building.

Having a survey for asbestos involves three steps; identification, inspection and implementation. In order to identify the type of asbestos in your building we first need to inspect the premises to locate the presence of the asbestos. We will then notify you on our findings and offer you effective management advice to minimise any risks.

We can also review your existing asbestos management plan and risk assessment and update your records with any noted deterioration, or further asbestos which has been revealed since the original survey. By sourcing a company that specialises in providing asbestos surveys you are not only on your way to meeting the requirements of the current Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 (CAR), Regulation 4, you are also providing you and your staff with a safe working environment.

All surveyors hold P402 proficiency certificates in 'Building Surveys and Bulk Sampling for Asbestos'. In addition our Senior Personnel hold P405 'Management of asbestos in buildings', and P406 'Management of Asbestos Contractors & Removal'.

Types of Asbestos surveys we provide:

Management survey

  • Locate any suspect Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) in the building and assess their condition.
  • No sampling of suspect ACM’s is carried out until a later time (e.g. prior to demolition or major refurbishment).
  • Representative samples are collected and analysed for the presence of asbestos
  • If the material sampled contains asbestos, other visually similar materials used in the same way with in the building can be strongly presumed to contain asbestos.
  • Less homogeneous materials may require a greater number of samples.

Refurbishment/Demolition survey

  • Locates and describes all ACMs in the building and it may involve a destructive inspection if necessary to gain access to all levels.
  • A full sampling programme is undertaken to identify possible ACMs.
  • Survey designed as a basis for tendering the removal of ACMs prior to demolition or major refurbishment.

Material Assessments
All surveys and sampling techniques are carried out in accordance with the HSE guidance document HSG 264 for the suspect ACMs collected from site. All samples obtained are then sent to an independent, UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) accredited laboratory for analysis.

On completion of a survey, you will receive a full colour report which will include digital pictures and site plans. The report will list all areas suspected or identified of containing asbestos and a UKAS accredited independent laboratory certificate for all samples obtained by our qualified surveyors. The reports are user friendly and easy to understand, if you require further assistance a consultant from Cordtape Environmental Services Ltd can be provided to help you.

Asbestos Management and Risk Assessment
Following the survey assessment and survey report we can work alongside your staff to help you formulate an asbestos management plan and full asbestos risk assessment.

Our clients include; Local Authorities, NHS, Universities, Architects, Blue chip manufacturers, Housing providers and Construction firms.
