Asbestos Removal
Q. |
Do I have to remove asbestos from my building? |
A |
No. If the asbestos products are in a good condition and are not damaged there is no need for them to be removed. If you notice a change in these products we advise that you have the asbestos products either removed or encapsulated responsibly by licensed personnel to reduce the potential exposure from the asbestos containing materials. |
Q. |
How much notice do clients have to give before any potential works can be undertaken? |
A. |
This is dependent on the type of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM's) to be removed, whether the product is a notifiable material i.e. insulation board, insulation material or a non notifiable material i.e. cement based or bound within a matrix for example floor tiles or textured coating (Artex). All notifiable type’s of ACM’s are only to be carried out by an asbestos removal contractor fully licensed by the Health and Safety Executive. The ACM will then be subject to the statutory 14 days notification period to Health and Safety Executive prior to the material being removed. Non notifable or non licensable work can be carried out by suitably trained & insured personnel, but we recommend any asbestos works are carried out by a licensed contractor, which normally can be achieved within 1 to 2 days. All type of works whether notifiable or non notifiable are complemented by detailed method statements, risk and COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) assessments. |
Q. |
Do you use subcontractors or directly employed labour? |
A. |
At Cordtape Environmental Services Ltd we use our own qualified labour workforce to carry out all contracts. |
Q. |
I think I have asbestos on site, what do I do? |
A. |
You need to get your site assessed properly by qualified personnel who will then advise you on what actions to take that best suit your needs. |
Q. |
After the asbestos has been removed will I need to insulate my building with another material? |
A. |
Yes it is very important to insulate your building after we have removed the asbestos. The ACM may have acted as an insulation material or as fire protection. If it was used as fire protection you have get it replaced for license purposes. |
Asbestos Sampling and Surveys
Q. |
Do I need an asbestos survey? |
A |
No, but it is the law to have an asbestos management plan in accordance with the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2006, reg ulation 4, as a survey is the most prudent way of formulating a plan. |
Q. |
Are the reports easy to understand and what do they include? |
A. |
Yes, the reports are easy to understand and are user friendly. On the completion of your survey, you will receive a full colour report which will include digital pictures and site plans. The report will list all areas suspected of containing asbestos and UKAS accredited independent laboratory certificates for all samples obtained by our surveyors. An initial material risk assessment will be made; this will be based on the ACM’s in question and using a scoring system in line with the requirements of HSG 264. |
