Asbestos Surveys

An asbestos survey is a comprehensive and methodical examination of a building or structure to determine the presence of asbestos. The purpose of all asbestos surveys is to identify the location; type and extent of ACMs in order to collect information which will assist in the preparation of a management plan.

On 29th January 2010 the HSE released HSG 264 Asbestos: The Survey Guide, which expands on and replaces MDHS 100 Methods of the determination of hazardous substances. The guide was aimed at companies and individuals who conduct and commission asbestos surveys, and specifically those who have a responsibility of managing asbestos within their buildings in accordance with Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2012 Regulation 4 "The Duty to Manage Asbestos".

At Cordtape, we offer a comprehensive range of asbestos surveys / surveying techniques and survey types, which include all premises, buildings, which conform to the recognised standard and requirements issued by the HSE, which are carried out by our team of highly experienced asbestos surveyors, who hold a BOHS P402 certificate and are fully trained.

Asbestos surveys are no longer known as "type 1″, "type 2″ and "type 3″ since the introduction and publication of the HSE's guidance notes (HSG264, Asbestos: The Survey Guide) and have been replaced with the "Management Survey" and "Refurbishment Survey" and "Demolition Survey".

Asbestos Management Surveys

This survey is designed and undertaken to locate as far as reasonably practicable, the presence of any suspect asbestos containing materials within the building, which may be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy, including routine maintenance and installation, and to assess their present condition and extent.

Refurbishment & Demolition Surveys

This survey is designed and undertaken prior to any proposed refurbishment or demolition work is carried out.

The survey is used to locate and describe, as far as reasonably practicable, all asbestos containing materials in the specific location of where the proposed refurbishment work will take place or in its entirety should the building be planned for demolition.

The findings of the surveys are then collated to form the basis of the asbestos report for the building(s), which are easy to follow and will highlight all locations of asbestos within a given building, together with other important details such as asbestos type, location, extent and condition.

Each asbestos survey report contains:

  • Introduction covering the scope of work
  • An executive summary of the survey
  • General site and survey information Survey results
  • Assessment of risk
  • Conclusions and actions
  • Asbestos survey bulk sample analysis results
  • Survey plans and drawings
