Why Choose Us?

Survey, fabrication, installation

How a thermal insulation project works

Every system loses heat differently, so we start by measuring the problem rather than quoting from a drawing. The process below applies whether you need a single plant room re-insulated or a full site programme covering pipework, ductwork, vessels and high temperature equipment.

STEP 1

Site survey and thermal review

We record pipe and duct runs, operating temperatures, surface conditions, access restrictions and the condition of any existing insulation. Where heat loss is the main concern, this can be combined with an energy survey and thermal inspection.

STEP 2

Specification and material selection

Materials are matched to the operating temperature, environment and required finish, from HVAC pipework and ductwork through to high temperature furnaces, exhaust systems, cryogenics and process pipework.

STEP 3

In-house fabrication

Our own metal fabrication facilities produce cladding, boxes and removable thermal insulation jackets to measured dimensions. Making components ourselves shortens lead times and reduces adjustment on site.

STEP 4

Installation and site support

Installation is scheduled around your operating hours, shutdown windows and other trades on site. Technical guidance is available throughout, so specification questions are resolved as the work progresses.

STEP 5

Handover and aftercare

You receive a record of what was installed and where, which makes future maintenance, inspection and phased upgrades straightforward to plan and budget for.

Where our insulation is used

Sectors and applications we insulate

Insulation is specified very differently depending on the process, the temperature range and who works nearby. A steam main in a manufacturing plant, a chilled water line in an office and a furnace exhaust all need different materials, thicknesses and finishes. Our surveyors specify against the application in front of them rather than a standard build-up.

  • Manufacturing and process plant
Steam, hot water and process pipework, vessels, tanks and heat exchangers where losses translate directly into fuel cost.
  • Commercial buildings and plant rooms
HVAC pipework, ductwork and calorifiers in offices, schools, hospitals and public buildings, often installed out of hours.
  • Power generation and energy from waste
Turbines, generators, hot gas ducting and exhaust systems operating at high temperature.
  • Food, drink and pharmaceutical
Hygienic, wipe-clean finishes alongside chilled and cryogenic lines where condensation control matters as much as heat retention.
  • Acoustic and fire cladding
Applications where noise breakout or compartmentation is a design requirement as well as thermal performance.
  • Utilities and external pipework
Frost protection, weatherproof cladding and heat retention on exposed runs and buried service routes.

Frequently asked questions

Thermal insulation FAQs

How much can insulation reduce energy costs?

Savings depend on the temperature difference, the length of the run and the condition of any existing insulation. Uninsulated valves, flanges and plant items are usually the quickest wins. An energy survey quantifies where the losses actually are before anything is specified.

Can insulation be installed while plant is running?

Frequently, yes. Cold and low temperature systems can often be insulated in service. High temperature and live steam work is planned around isolations or shutdown windows, and we phase the programme so that critical equipment stays available.

What is the difference between fixed insulation and removable jackets?

Fixed insulation suits static runs of pipework and ductwork. Removable thermal insulation jackets suit valves, flanges, strainers and instruments that need regular access for inspection or maintenance, because they can be taken off and refitted without damage.

Do you carry out surveys before quoting?

Yes. We prefer to see the site so that dimensions, access and operating conditions are recorded accurately. That avoids variations later and produces a specification you can compare fairly against other quotations.

Could our existing insulation contain asbestos?

Insulation installed before 1999 may contain asbestos. It should not be stripped or disturbed until it has been checked. Arrange an asbestos survey and sampling first, and read our guide on whether thermal insulation contains asbestos.

Do you work outside South Yorkshire?

Yes. We operate nationwide from offices in Sheffield and Radford, Nottingham, and regularly travel to sites well beyond our core coverage area.
